"My name is Helen Towler and I live in Kendal with my family. I feel very privileged to work as a midwife. It is lovely when, occasionally I see the mummies I have cared for out walking with their new babies, taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings we live in, and the playgrounds I go to with our children are generally surrounded by beautiful fells and fields.

We are so lucky. I am originally from North Wales so feel at home with the mountains and sheep of the beautiful Lake District!

A perfect day for me would be a slow, lazy start in the morning, sun shining then out with the family for lunch - try one of the numerous cafes in the Lakes and then a gentle walk around somewhere like Tarn Hows or exploring somewhere new using our 'Lakeland Walks with Children' book; then home for cake and hot chocolate... I am inspired by the beauty of the Lakes - In the sunshine it's incredibly beautiful. In the rain it can be a bit more hard work, but being armed with waterproofs and wellies means that the Fells can still be enjoyed with lots of puddle jumping!!

One of my favourite places to relax is Wilf’s Cafe in Staveley, which is special to me as we held our wedding reception there. There's good coffee, yummy food and cake and somewhere for the kids to play. We take our visitors through Elterwater to Great Langdale then up and into Little Langdale, which is a great day out - a beautiful walk after a stunning drive through my favourite part of the Lakes and topped off with coffee and a huge hunk of cake at Chester’s, Skelwith Bridge!

The Lakes is one of the most beautiful places in the world whether covered by blue or grey skies.

The beauty of green fells, sparkling lakes and a different view around every corner is unsurpassed.

I hope World Heritage status would mean preservation and promotion of the Lakes world wide, attracting more visitors, bringing in valuable funds to help conserve one of the most beautiful places in the world. It’s vital we conserve this place for future generations."
