Two years and counting...

11 July 2019

Tuesday 9th July was the second anniversary of the English Lake District's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hurrah!

To mark and celebrate this special day, the Lake District National Park Partnership has published a review of the last two years. This document focuses on some the World Heritage Site's highlights to date, and it is hoped that this will be built upon each year as new and exciting projects are developed and delivered. In addition, the WHS Marketing Group hosted an event on the same day at Windermere Jetty on the shores of the lake. Called "Working with World Heritage", the event's aim was to encourage businesses and stakeholders who hadn't as yet capitalised on or engaged with this international accolade. Over 40 businesses from across many sectors attended and were able to hear from a handful of businesses that had made that leap.

Hawkshead Relish, Langdale Leisure, Another Place, Pure Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises all spoke about how they were using World Heritage within their own operations. Targeting international visitors, attracting media, recruiting and retaining staff, and developing new products reflecting their location and heritage, were all covered.

The morning was busy with many ideas shared and new relationships established, all under the gaze of local radio, television and print media who attended. All in all a great way of looking back at past successes and looking forward to new opportunities and challenges.
